Flying Fish Farm is a 77-acre family-owned and operated, pasture-based farm located in Monroe in SE Michigan. Although not certified Organic, we utilize organic methods to produce high quality beef, pork, lamb, turkey, chicken and eggs.
All of our animals are bred, born and raised outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Murray Grey cattle comprise our closed herd of 100% grass-fed beef cattle, specifically bred for grass-finishing and providing a premium meat product that is well-marbled and flavorful. They are rotated through lush, diverse pastures during the spring, summer and fall and fed grass, clover and alfalfa hay in the winter. They always have access to organic, free-choice minerals and organic kelp.
Our heritage, cross-bred pigs (Tamworth and Large Black) have been developed to glean a large portion of their diet from the pastures and woodlots, enjoying, among other things, clover, roots, and acorns in addition to their organic, soy-free grain. We have chosen to raise Freedom Rangers for our meat birds. These are a slow-growing hybrid that does especially well on pasture, enjoying a smorgasbord of grasses, bugs and organic, soy-free grain. A mix of free-ranging, heritage breed, laying hens provide colorful eggs and round out our offerings.
By rotating our animals to fresh pasture daily and providing premium quality grains to our pigs and poultry, we raise healthy and happy animals without the use of antibiotics, hormones, steroids, or chemical wormers. We never use pesticides or herbicides on our land. We take great pride in managing our land in a way that is sustainable and healthy, for our soil, our animals, our family and our community.
